Parents and teachers have said the busy junction has been a cause of safety concerns since the school opened ten years ago. Bellenden Road in Peckham is home to almost 40 independent businesses, as well as The Belham Primary, the main entrance to which is located on the junction with Maxted Road. Alarmed business owners in the area appear unanimously opposed to the idea, which they say will kill business by reducing footfall and stopping deliveries – but the school and council say it will make the area safer for children.
