TfL have visited to look at Tram Scheme

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

A letter in Southwark News from Peckham Vision describing the walkabout on the tram loop route with TfL. The letter said:

“… This one-way single track loop does of course raise issues which need to be addressed, and examined, just as TfL’s own two-way double track proposals raise issues which need further examination. There are pluses and minuses of both ideas. But a double width track causes such minuses in some places, while in some places there are big pluses in the single track loop, in addition to getting the tram so much closer to Nunhead, Peckham Rye, East Dulwich and Peckham Rye station. All we have asked TfL to do is a thorough evaluation of these alternatives, and to publish their results…”

Tram Loop May Be On

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

South London Press report that Transport for London (TfL) have walked the tram loop route around Peckham town centre with Peckham Vision. This identified a number of issues which would have to be examined, just as with TfL’s own proposals. Peckham Vision urged TfL to do a thorough technical evaluation and publish the results with the evaluation of their own proposals.

Bussey Building artist – Alice White - celebrated by Dulwich-On-View

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Alice (www.alicewhiteart.com) practices as a painter from a studio in Peckham, located on the top floor of the historic Bussey Building, part of the site threatened by the proposed tram depot on the large industrial estate behind Rye Lane. Her studio is one of many on the site, now home to a thriving creative community, with great potential. Dulwich-On-View “recognises and celebrates the eclectic nature of the life of Dulwich and the surrounding area, the breadth of people and livelihoods, the rude health of the Arts, and the buoyant sense of community, and subverts the tired old caricatures lazily ascribed to our South London home.”

Successful Music Event in the Threatened Bussey Building.

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Peckham Society News Winter 2007/2008 reports on the successful CLF music event in the threatened Bussey Building last summer.

“A three day music event was held on the Copeland Industrial Park off Rye Lane. This is the area Southwark Council wants to demolish so a tram depot can be built there. The music event’s security guard wrote a remarkable email, published below, after the event. [He praised the audience - all ages, races and backgrounds - and their good organisation, communication and co-operation, with no security issues for the whole weekend.] This shows the potential which this site has for the future of Peckham if campaigners succeed in getting Transport for London to find alternative sites for tram depots and if Southwark Council understands the important role this site has for the future of Peckham town centre.. “
